This past weekend was pretty tame but had some definite highlights.
We have discovered that if we want to go to Ikea and not get swallowed up in a massive mob of people it is best to go in the evening during the week. We found ourselves there last Friday night. Patric wasn't super stoked about my find at Jim's house so he wanted to check out other options. I really can't say I blame him. So we went looking...
We found the absolute perfect display case. I call it this because it is not really just a bookcase. We really don't have wall space for it so we have a couple of ideas on how to do this - 1. we can put it in front of one of our huge windows, 2. we can use it as a room divider. We went through all of this discussion and envisioned it in both locations in our house and fell more in love with it. So we wrote down the location in the warehouse and continued on our merry shopping ways...we did have other reasons to be at Ikea. We got to the warehouse and went straight to the area where our case was. You know how balloons look when you let all of the air out of them? Well, our air was let out really quickly when we found the area only to be greeted by a "Temporarily Out of Stock" sign. Bummer!!! So Patric went to gather our other items from the warehouse while I was tasked with finding someone to look this item up and let me know when it would be back in stock. This was no small feat since it was getting close to closing time. When I did find someone he did not endear himself to me with the news he gave me...FOUR WEEKS!!!! We are going to have to wait four long weeks to get this perfect piece of furniture in our house. This means that all of the Christmas decorations I was hoping to get out this year will remain boxed. But, on the bright side, after the new year I will be able to put out more of my "rest of the year" stuff! Sweet!
Saturday was spent doing the usual running around but Sunday was a good day. We went to China Town and bought our Christmas Tree!!
I took these pictures just now so it is kind of hard to see the overall picture. This is a 6' Cashmere Pine and I just love it!!! The only down side it that it is not prelit so we had to buy lights and actually string them. This could be an up side as well since we won't have to worry about the plug fitting where ever we go. We also bought the lights in China Town...
By the time we got home from China Town on Sunday I had started feeling really bad. I felt like I had some flu-like symptoms coming on - feverish, achy, sore throat...you know. So we got home and Patric put up the tree but we didn't decorate it. I went to bed and hoped for a better start on Monday.
Monday was one of the many holidays that is celebrated here in Malaysia. I can't even tell you which one it was or what it signified. All I know is that Patric was off and I woke up feeling ok. So we went to work on decorating the tree. We put the lights on first then made sure everything was in working order. We knew the strands worked because they were tested before we left the store in China Town. Now we were really just checking out placement and all that good stuff. Once we were happy with the lights I started putting ornaments on the tree. Sadly, I lost one of my favorite Santa decorations...he fell off and met a tragic end on our tile floor. It was really sad because a really good friend gave me that ornament one year and I know I will not be able to replace it...such is life. I took a short break from decorating and sat down to look over my progress. It was then that I realized that I was starting to feel bad again. It seemed like the longer I was awake and doing stuff the worse I felt. As if that wasn't bad enough, while Patric and I were looking at the tree the strand of lights at the top went dark. Crap!
So off we went to the mall to find more lights since China Town was a little far away and I was really starting to feel bad. My throat was starting to feel like there was a big ball stuck in it and swallowing was becoming next to impossible. We found lights and picked up a few things at the grocery store that I had forgotten on the trip Saturday. We made it home and Patric replaced the top strand of lights without incident. While we were gone, however, another of our ornaments met a tragic fate. One of our dogs (I won't name names but she knows who she is) tried to get to her favorite place...the corner the tree is in. She loves that glass corner and I guess she figured she could fit under the tree. This was another irreplaceable ornament since it was special made and distributed one year by the last company I worked at in Houston. Crap, again!
I finally got the tree finished. Much like the rest of the decorations it does not have all of the ornaments we own on it. Part of this was because I was feeling bad and the other part was because this tree is smaller than the last one we owned. It has all of our special ornaments plus one that I bought this year. It is the Santa that is in the picture above. That was my only purchase at Jim's House last week.
I had made plans with Pauline and Vicky to head into KLCC on Tuesday to hang out with them so I went to bed hoping that I would feel so much better when I woke up. Sadly, this was not the case. My throat did not hurt as bad as it had on Monday but I was feeling the general blahs. I begrudgingly called Pauline to let her know I wasn't going to make it then continued to lay in bed for a while. My intention was to go to the doctor Tuesday. The longer I laid there the lazier I got and the less I wanted to leave my house. I had some throat lozenges that I was using to soothe my throat and the cough that I had waken up with. So I talked myself out of the doctor visit and stayed home nursing myself. By the end of the day I felt much better even though I still had the cough. I called Pauline and rescheduled for hanging out on Wednesday (yesterday).
I was really happy when I woke up yesterday morning and felt really good. Of course I still had the cough but I figure it will linger for a little while. I headed into KLCC and met up with Pauline and Vicky. Nothing especially exciting happened...we ran some errands and then went to Sunway Pyramid Mall. I've been there once before for a brief trip and I had posted about it previously. I never did see the Christmas scene that I'm sure was set up here - there is one in every mall. I was able to get a little Christmas shopping done which made me happy. I also got a line on some other gifts that would just about finish my list. And I still wasn't feeling bad!
I headed home late afternoon yesterday. One of the things I really love about riding the LRT is that I get to read whatever book I'm into...yay Kindle app!!! It makes the trip seem much shorter. Not that it is a long trip but it is kind of boring when you are alone. Patric worked late last night so nothing of interest happened last night.
Today has been a very lazy day for me. All I've done today is update my blog which you have hopefully now read with me. I didn't even do any laundry...how lazy is that??? I'm ok with it though. I did receive my Harry Potter movies in the mail today...woo hoo!!! I can't wait to start watching them...all eight of them! I may start on them when I am finished with this post. As it stands right now I don't have anything planned for tomorrow so I could spend the whole day watching Harry Potter. How cool would that be?! But, everything is subject to change!
See you next post!!
